Sometime the finish cannot be economically saved and in that case a new finish can be added. This is what most people know as refinishing. Here at Golden Age Cabinetmaking and Restoration we handstrip each piece taking great care to preserve the acquired patina of the piece. In consultation with the client we decide what finish best suites their needs. It can be a shellac and wax to a heavy duty polyurethane. All finishes have their own advantages and disadvantages and we pick according to what is needed.
