Ordering custom furniture is a process whereby the client decides that there is a need for a piece that cannot be found pre-made and decides for a variety of reasons that handmade is the way to go. The advantages of a custom or bespoke furniture piece are close coordination with maker and client, higher quality, exact sizing to fit a room, space or need.
The ability to meet with the furniture maker to decide all the factors involved make it very easy to obtain something that is beautiful, desirable and designed to an exact size needed.
Typically, clients bring sketches, photos , ideas from magazines and or have a designer coordinate ideas with the maker.
In our shop, we would discuss all these sources and would produce an initial sketch. Sometimes this is enough. But the possibility remains that many variations on the design are needed before the exact one is finalized. Of course the cost is always a prime concern and the affects every choice in the design, construction, materials and finish.
One of the interesting aspects of custom furniture is the opportunity to show people what options are available in their choices of beautiful woods, veneers , metals, glass and styles.
